The idea of low carbon cities framework and strategies is to lower the levels of carbon emissions from our cities and achieving sustainable urban development.
India, a developing country has around 30 % of population living in cities according to 2011 census of India and it is projected to grow 38% by 2026. With the changing life styles the carbon emissions are only bound to increase. For India to achieve its target of reduction of emissions intensity of GDP by 20-25% of 2005 levels , policies and strategies need to be in place to reduce carbon emissions from the cities as they are the growth engines.
